Campus visits are an important part of building a strong application list!
Visiting a college campus (especially when in session) helps prospective applicants get a sense of daily college life and the type of environment that feels compatible.

The college list will evolve over the next few months and initial preferences and admission chances may change, but some core preferences will usually emerge early on as different types of campuses are visited: big or small? close or far? public or private? big city or college town? And, so on.

My Recommendations:

• Visit the top two realistic prospects, and hold off on visiting any others once acceptances come in.
• Avoid visiting highly selective campuses (those with an acceptance rate below 25%).
• Save on trips by visiting colleges within driving distance or in coordination with a trip or vacation already planned.
• Take advantage of campus event days that are usually held on weekends and of online virtual visits.
• Register for all visits so that there is a record of your visit. Many campuses track demonstrated interest, and a campus visit could end up tipping the scales in favor of an admittance.

My BIGGEST suggestion is to enjoy your trips and savor every moment! Let your student freely explore throughout this process within the security of your acceptance and encouragement.

Speaking as a momma who went through this with three kids: these moments will soon pass, and you'll wish you had savored instead of stressed. Grab a coffee on a campus with your kiddo and enjoy exploring together. Your trips, together, doing campus tours will soon turn into visits that end in goodbyes. Enjoy this chapter!
